Videographer vs AI Video: When to Hire the Human

Updated October 2026

Hire a videographer when the property itself has to be walked through: luxury listings, large or unusual homes, drone and twilight shots, or anything where scale and flow are the sale. Use AI video from your listing photos for the standard listings and the posts in between, where the aim is a feed that keeps running rather than a film of the house. A photo reel is not walkthrough footage and should not be presented as one.

Videographer ranges are from the two 2026 studio guides cited on our cost page (Hill Property Media, April 2026; TourKit, June 2026), as checked on 27 August 2026. Kadapt figures are from kadapt.com/pricing, 5 October 2026. Treat ranges as orientation.

Disclosure: Kadapt sells the AI side of this comparison. So the matrix below says plainly where we lose. Videographer figures are from working studios’ published guides; ours are from our pricing page.

What each costs

Per the two 2026 studio guides we cite on the cost page: a basic walkthrough is about $150–500, a cinematic edit about $800–2,500, drone $100–400, and vertical social cuts $50–150 each. On Kadapt the cost is credits, shown as a quote before every render; at current pricing a 15-second reel from a prepared plan is illustrated at about 6 credits for a Photo Reel and 64 for a Fast AI Reel, on plans from $14.99 a month (pricing). Planning, photo analysis and edits use more, so the real figure depends on your listing.

What the AI reel is, and isn’t

A Photo Reel animates your original stills; an AI Video generates reference-based motion from them, and generative output can differ from the photos in places. Either way you approve the plan before it renders and should review the result before you post. It is not walkthrough footage, and the honest pitch never says it is.

Why not choose one

Agents tend to say the same thing: leads come from a feed that keeps running. NAR’s 2025 Technology Survey has social media as the top source of quality leads at 39% (primary source on our stats page). A feed that needs an $800 shoot per post doesn’t run; one that costs a couple of minutes does. So film the listings that deserve it and use the photos for the rest. The tool roundup and the camera-shy guide cover the next steps.

Whatever you choose, the script is the part you can sort today: the free listing reel script generator turns the listing details into a short voiceover and caption set.

Common questions

Can AI video replace a real estate videographer?

Not for the listings that need filming. AI from photos adds motion, script and narration to stills; it does not capture how a property feels to move through. For standard listings and the posts between them, it can replace the cost and the wait, which is where most agents use it.

How much does a real estate videographer cost?

The two 2026 studio guides we cite put a basic walkthrough at roughly $150–500, cinematic edits at $800–2,500 (TourKit: $500–1,500+), drone add-ons at $100–400, and vertical social cuts at $50–150 each. Quotes vary with property size, drone, on-camera segments and market, so ask what is included.

What does AI video cost per listing?

On Kadapt the cost is in credits, and the app shows a quote before each render. Our pricing page illustrates a 15-second Photo Reel at about 6 credits and a Fast AI Reel at about 64 once the plan is prepared and photos are analysed; planning and extra edits cost more, so treat those as illustrations, not guarantees.

Should I use both?

Most agents who do this allocate by listing: a videographer for the few that justify it, and photo reels for everything else. Both feed the same social channels, and consistency on those channels is what produces leads.
