Kadapt Creator vs Powtoon for Explainer Videos: Two Animated Styles

Updated October 2026

Powtoon is a template-based animated video maker with a free plan (3 minutes, watermarked) and paid plans from $15 a month billed yearly. Kadapt Creator draws a hand-drawn-style explainer from a script you approve and quotes a maximum video reserve in credits based on your selected target, with research charged separately. Choose Powtoon to build and edit animated videos yourself from templates, and Creator when you want the drawing done from your script.

Powtoon's plans below were read from powtoon.com/pricing on 29 October 2026. Kadapt figures come from kadapt.com/creator and kadapt.com/pricing the same day. Prices and features move. Powtoon and Kadapt Creator both make animated explainers. The difference is who does the building.

Where Powtoon fits

If you want direct control of every slide, character and transition, or several people editing videos regularly, Powtoon’s editor and its free plan are a sensible place to start.

Where Creator fits

Kadapt Creator plans scenes from a script you approve, voices them and draws them in a hand-drawn style with a host character.

Creator offers 3, 5, 8, 12 or 15-minute planner targets (8 minutes by default). The video quote is a maximum reserve based on the selected target, even when your script is shorter. You need the full quoted credit balance to start. Final drawing charges use finished video duration, capped at the reserve; any difference is returned.

Planning is 18 credits, narration is 0.3 × the beat count rounded up to whole credits, and drawing is 4 credits per started minute. Optional research is charged separately, before the video quote, at 6 credits per started minute of the selected target. Starter remains $14.99 a month for 200 credits. See the cost guide for the breakdown and the Creator page for pricing and three finished examples.

How to choose

Decide whether you want to edit or to approve. If your time is the scarce part, try Creator on one script. Either way, fact-check the script before publishing, and see the wider field in our roundup and the Pictory comparison.
